  1. Jan 02,  · What is this fresh hell? Well, Depeche Mode was originally a very, very different band. Their first album, Speak and Spell, is coloured by two things: one is the songwriting of Vince Clarke, who dominated the first album and then left the group before they recorded their second. The other is a kind of glorification of rinky-dink keyboards.
  2. chances are you already own 'speak and spell,' as well as it's great b-sides, 'ice machine,' 'i sometimes wish i was dead,' and 'shout,' so i won't get into the album itself. the accompanying dvd is a veritable treasure trove for mode-a-philes, the most shiniest diamond being the interviews with vince clarke/5().

  4. May 04,  · The album is full of atmosphere and great sonics and holds up very well today. Ultra-This album is very sublime, their most mature album to date. Gorgeous songs on this album (Sister of Night, Insight, Home) and emotional vocal performances from Martin Gore and Dave Gahan. Playing the Angel-Depeche Mode's heaviest and most experimental album.

  8. Though probably nobody fully appreciated it at the time -- perhaps least of all the band! -- Depeche Mode's debut is at once both a conservative, functional pop record and a groundbreaking release. While various synth pioneers had come before -- Gary Numan, early Human League, late-'70s Euro-disco, and above all Kraftwerk all had clear influence on Speak & Spell-- Depeche became the undisputed.
  9. Sometimes watch you walk the street at midnight Sometimes I can feel you in the air Looking good, knew you would All the time I understood Hey, you're such a pretty boy Hey, you're such a pretty boy Hey, you're such a pretty boy You're so pretty Everybody seems to look.
